1 dead, 7 injured, after incident on ride at Ohio State Fair

One person is dead and seven others injured -- three of whom are in critical condition -- after the Fire Ball ride at the Ohio State Fair broke apart in mid-air Wednesday night, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. The deceased is an 18-year-old male, according to fire department officials. The Grant Medical Center in Columbus has admitted three patients, hospital spokesperson Mark Hopkins told ABC News.

4 RVs destroyed in fire at lot in east Vancouver

Four RVs at a vehicle storage lot in east Vancouver were destroyed in a fire Wednesday morning. Firefighters were called to 606 N.E. 192nd Ave. just before 11:30 a.m. for the reported fire, Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Pete Adams said. Several explosions were reported prior to firefighters’ arrival and crews could see plumes of black smoke from the highway, Adams said.

Lee County EMS Crew Getting New North Fort Myers (FL) Substation

Lee County's Emergency Medical Services will soon have its own substation in North Fort Myers. The North Fort Myers Fire District station off Trail Dairy Circle currently shares its space with an EMS crew. Both chiefs for the departments said it was time for a change because of overcrowding.
"It's a full EMS station," said Lee County's EMS Chief Benjamin Abes about the future building. "So, they'll have their living corridors, they'll have bunk rooms, they'll have a kitchen, they'll have everything they need for a 12 or 24-hour shift."

Chief Abes said his crew's efficiencies are crucial in their line of work.

Renovated Ridgeland (SC) Weight Room Aims for Fitness

During the past few weeks, the building adjacent to the Ridgeland Fire Station on Railroad Avenue has been under renovation. The final product: a weight and exercise room available to all town of Ridgeland employees.
The $7,000 renovation was funded through the fire department’s budget, but $17,000 in equipment was funded through the state’s 1 percent inspection fund the fire department receives each year, Ridgeland Fire Chief Bradley Bonds said.

Typically, the total sum of the 1 percent fund is around $20,000. Bonds said frequently those funds are put towards a different firefighter’s retirement each year, but this year all agreed establishing a designated fitness center was imperative.

Huntsville (TX) Firefighters Unveil New Pumper Fire Apparatus

Huntsville firefighters will soon be able to better serve the community with the newest addition to the fleet. The Huntsville Fire Department recently received the 2017 Ferrara pumper truck at Fire Station No. 2 that City Council approved to purchase last winter, and it should be running the streets in the next week or two.
The new truck comes with a full set of ladders and will be equipped with hydraulic tools firefighters will be able to use to cut accident victims from vehicles. One of the most significant improvements the new truck brings to the table compared to the one it is replacing is the size of the water tank and pumping rate. The truck can hold 1,000 gallons of water and dispense 200 gallons per minute
