Selah firefighters extinguish four small brush fires near interstate

Firefighters have put out four separate brush fires in the same area. Firefighters with the Selah Fire Department and the Yakima Training Center extinguished the flames roughly 30 minutes after the fire started Thursday morning at the Selah Creek rest area off of I-82 westbound. Flames reached about two feet high near milepost 22 before crews quickly extinguished the fires.

Amarillo (TX) Fire Department Shows Off New Fire Apparatus

The Amarillo Fire Department has taken to social media to show off their new truck. The Type III Wildland Fire Engine was recently awarded to the department from Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS). TIFMAS assists fire departments by providing vehicles, training, and with firefighting equipment.
Departments awarded TIFMAS trucks are allowed to use the apparatus for local emergency events, as well as assist with incidents within the Texas.

Firefighters are now getting trained on the truck to be able to use it in the field soon.

Rouse Hill Rural Fire Brigade Volunteers (Australia) Revive Former Fire Apparatus

An aging but valuable truck is lovingly being given a new lease on life by volunteers at the Rouse Hill Rural Fire Brigade, who are not only devoting thousands of hours but shelling out thousands from their pockets.
The former army truck, which is nearly 60 years old, has been used as a rescue vehicle for the RFS in the Hills and has pulled out many a vehicle from bogs and muddy patches.

Its hard work through the years has been recognized by the loyal crew who have rebuilt it. The RFS are made up of volunteers and are involved with both local and inter-state rescue work.

Wilton (CT) Fire Department Honors 10-Year-Old Boy Fighting Cancer

The Wilton Fire Department welcomed the youngest officer of the Ithaca Police Department as an honorary deputy chief on Monday. Colin Toland, 10, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor at 2, received a shoulder patch, a certificate from the fire department, and a front-seat ride in the engine truck.
The 10-year-old was sworn into the Ithaca Police Department in September, though doctors said he only had several months to live when the brain tumor returned in 2015.

After hearing his story, Wilton Fire Chief Ronald Kanterman said he immediately agreed to set up an event to honor him and his family while they were in town.

Red Wing (MN) Training Tower and Fire Station Plans Advance

With high call volume in the northwest region of Red Wing, but not enough resources in the area, Red Wing Fire Chief Shannon Draper proposed a second fire station to be built for the community to council members.
"We're required to train hundreds of hours and also for ISO, which determines the homeowner's insurance base," Draper said. "We're losing a lot of points in that system because we don't have an area to train."

Currently, the Red Wing Fire Department conducts one live burn a year, costing $8,000. For additional training, Draper said, firefighters are sent to Rochester.
