Traffic slowed down on Highway 240 Saturday in Kennewick due to a brush fire. According to the Kennewick Fire Department, they received the first call about this fire at 6:45 P.M. The fire took place on the south side of the highway between the exits for Edison Street and Columbia Center Boulevard. Firefighters say it burned about a third of an acre.

Spokane County Fire District 3 and Medical Lake Fire Department are working together to fight a second-alarm brush fire burning in the area of Washington Road and Highway 902 south of Lakeland Village near Cheney Saturday evening. Scott Sorenson will take over as the new chief of Clark County Fire District 3, after current Chief Steve Wrightson retires in November, according to the district. The district board of commissioners chose Sorenson, who is currently an assistant chief at the district, from multiple regional applicants for the job.
