When the Berwyn Fire Company responded to a call Monday afternoon, they probably expected a routine incident. Ironically, as the fire company was responding to a vehicle accident, a fire engine got caught in a snafu of its own. According to the fire company, a call for a vehicle accident came in at about 3:05 p.m.
While heading to the accident scene on W. Swedesford Road and Westlakes Drive in Tredyffrin, Berwyn Engine 2-2 struck the Old Lancaster Road Bridge near the Main Line Berwyn Apartments, the fire company said.
Luckily, no one was injured and no other vehicles were involved in the minor accident with the fire engine, which appeared to be caused by an axle failure that happened before colliding with the bridge, according to the fire company.
