Man lucky to be alive after plunging into river from Monroe Street Bridge in Spokane

A man is lucky to be alive after surviving a drop from the Monroe Street Bridge into the raging Spokane River below on Wednesday evening. That man remains in the hospital. Firefighters say they can't believe he actually survived. "I was not expecting a successful rescue at all," said Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer.

Retired Kennewick fire chief dies at 89

A retired Kennewick fire chief died Monday at age 89. Donald “Gene” Graves was a lifelong resident of Kennewick. Graves graduated from Kennewick High School and served in the Navy Seabees for two years on Guam, Herald archives show. After he was discharged, he went to work with his brothers at Graves Auto Service in Kennewick.

Benton (CO) Fire Department Gets New Ambulance

FRANKLIN CO. -- Emergency response could soon come a little quicker for people in Benton. Wednesday, the fire department unveiled its new ambulance, and it didn't cost the city a dime. The next time a Benton resident has an emergency, they could see fire crews roll up in a new vehicle.

West Frankfort had an extra ambulance they weren't sure what to do with until Mayor Tom Jordan suggested donating it to another community.

Chief Allen says he knew what an asset it would be.

"It also takes more manpower and, of course more training, but I believe the quality of service will benefit the citizens of Benton," he said.

Fairfield Glade (TN) FD Thanks Community for Support of Mini Pumper Purchase

The Fairfield Glade Fire Department (FGFD) held a celebration of appreciation to the community for all the support given throughout the fundraising to purchase a Mini Pumper Attack Truck (MPAT) and a new (used) engine March 8 on "The Square."

“This is the culmination of everything we have been doing,” said Cyd Reide, Fairfield Glade (FG) resident and avid supporter of the FGFD. “We wanted to thank the community for all their help and it’s nice when they can see their contributions come to fruition.”

New Price Tag On San Diego (CA) Fire Station Needs Tops $91 Million

San Diego would need to spend more than $91 million to fully implement the findings of a recent report on the city's fire safety needs, according to an analysis by the Independent Budget Analyst's Office. The figure represents the cost of building seven new, unfunded fire stations throughout the city.
