Mudgee Fire Station is the home of a new hazardous materials (HAZMAT) tanker, equipped to the value of around $600,000, which enhances the emergency protection capabilities of firefighters for the local area and beyond. Member for Dubbo - and minister for emergency services - Troy Grant officially handed over the keys to the vehicle on Monday.
“The new HAZMAT tanker is equipped with a 2700-litre water tank, and has off-raid capability, including a water spray cabin protection system that can be operated to protect the crew during a bushfire.”
Mudgee deputy captain, Craig Muscat, said that tanker was indeed utilised recently at the Sir Ivan bushfires in the Dunedoo region early this year.
