1970 Fire Truck Is Back in Moore (OK)

MOORE - A 1970 Chevrolet fire truck originally purchased for the Moore Fire Department is back home. The truck's last owner was the Vanoss Fire Department, which donated it to Moore. During its Feb. 6 meeting, the Moore City Council approved a proposal by Ward 2 Councilman Mark Hamm to accept the truck.

Silver Star Construction Co. sent a tractor-trailer to Vanoss, which is between Stratford and Ada, to bring the fire truck back to Moore. Steven Shawn, Silver Star president, said his company volunteered to get the truck and has been restoring it. He said his workers tuned up the motor, replaced the brakes and had the front end aligned. He said the company wanted "to make it safe to drive."

It was a reminder of an earlier time, just about identical to a fire engine the Milton Fire Department once used. But the 1940s-era American LaFrance fire engine that T.I.M.E., The Improved Milton Experience, had in storage for about 10 years needed a lot of work, and it was difficult to find parts for it.

But the 1940s-era American LaFrance fire engine that T.I.M.E., The Improved Milton Experience, had in storage for about 10 years needed a lot of work, and it was difficult to find parts for it.

So T.I.M.E., Milton’s revitalization agency, donated the truck late last month to the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society museum in Shenandoah. The society plans to restore the old engine that T.I.M.E. picked up at an auction near Pittsburgh in the early 2000s.
