Sandy Springs to Buy $643K Fire Truck for Panhandle

Sandy Springs will spend about $643,000 on a new fire truck to serve the panhandle area, in a purchase authorized by the City Council Feb. 7. The cost of the truck is $560,620, with related equipment costing about $82,300. The money will come from impact fees paid by developers on certain projects.

Creek Getting $1Million Fire Truck

By TOM WOERNER Of The Record Staff Residents of the Buies Creek and Campbell University communities will soon see familiar Campbell orange and black when one fire truck rolls out of the fire station there after a spring addition to the fire department fleet.

The bright Campbel orange truck is a 110-foot rear-mounted aerial truck with a 1,500-gallon-perminute capability. The water can be delivered at that rate from up to 100 feet in the air. It will also carry the department’s specialized rope rescue equipment.

Three Firefighters Injured After Fire Truck Crashes Into Light Pole

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Three firefighters have been released from the hospital, after their fire truck crashed into a light pole in Arlington Friday morning. The engine was heading east on the service road along Arlington Expressway near University Boulevard. No other vehicles were involved.
"JFRD said the firefighters aboard the engine had to be extracted from inside by crews from a fire engine that was also heading to the scene."

29-year Iowa fire department veteran dies

On Saturday, the Des Moines Professional Fire Fighters Association IAFF Local 4 President Joe VanHaalen announced that a 29-year-veteran of the Des Moines Fire Department died Saturday morning after having a medical emergency while on duty Friday. Fire Engineer Douglas McCauley, 58, died because of an unknown medical problem.

Washington State Supreme Court decides in favor of firefighters in skin cancer case

The Washington Supreme Court moved this week in favor of two Bellevue firefighters battling melanoma whose insurance benefits were rescinded by the city and state Department of Labor. “I thought [the verdict] was great. The fact that skin cancer is a presumptive disease for firefighters, there’s kind of this promise made to us… When it was denied, it was a hard deal.
