Killeen (TX) FD to Dedicate Fire Station

Killeen Fire Station No. 9 began operations Monday. The city will host a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday for the department's newest building. The station will service the southwest area of Killeen with fire and EMS response. Ii will also serve as a primary fire protection backup for West Fort Hood.
Ventilation systems for the safety and protection of personnel and energy efficiencies for reduced costs were implemented into the fire station’s design. Construction began in January 2016.

Killeen received a $4.44 million staffing for adequate fire and emergency response grant from the Department of Homeland Security. The grant will fund the new station’s personnel for nearly two years.

St. Louis Firetruck Catches Fire

ST. LOUIS - A St. Louis City Fire Department truck caught fire while the department was responding to calls early Tuesday morning. The St. Louis Fire Department tweeted a photo of the vehicle just before 1 a.m. saying the T-17 caught fire on N. Taylor and Pershing. N.

Fire District 10 joins Clark County Fire & Rescue in pursuit of a levy lift

On April 25 as part of a special election, voters within Fire District 10 will be asked to vote on a levy lid lift. The measure seeks to raise property taxes from the current 69 cents per $1,000 to $1 per $1,000. The increased funding would go toward paying for full-time staffing. The district covers 64 square miles of rural homes in the northeast corner of Clark County.

Houston captain, injured in 2013 motel fire, has died

Houston Fire Department Capt. Bill Dowling died Tuesday, according to the department. Both of Dowling's legs were amputated after he was injured in the Southwest Inn fire in 2013. Dowling was injured on May 31, 2013 -- which is considered the deadliest day in Houston Fire Department history. Believing people were trapped in a fire that engulfed the Southwest Inn along the Southwest Freeway, Dowling led a rescue attempt during which four fellow firefighters died and 13 others were injured.

DC fire chief hands out bonuses amid rising OT costs

As overtime costs rose dramatically at D.C. Fire and EMS, the city’s top fire official approved more than $20,000 in bonuses for some of the leaders in his department, according to financial figures obtained by NBC Washington. “I gave bonuses to four assistant chiefs and one civilian,” Fire Chief Gregory Dean told NBC Washington.
