Killeen Fire Station No. 9 began operations Monday. The city will host a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday for the department's newest building. The station will service the southwest area of Killeen with fire and EMS response. Ii will also serve as a primary fire protection backup for West Fort Hood.
Ventilation systems for the safety and protection of personnel and energy efficiencies for reduced costs were implemented into the fire station’s design. Construction began in January 2016.
Killeen received a $4.44 million staffing for adequate fire and emergency response grant from the Department of Homeland Security. The grant will fund the new station’s personnel for nearly two years.
