Three dead after fire races through Lewis County home

Three people are dead after an early morning fire in Lewis County raced through a small home Thursday. The fire was in the town of Glenoma, east of Morton along Highway 12. Firefighters were called to the home about 3:30 a.m. After they put out the flames, they searched the home and found three people dead inside.

Kirkland moving forward with new fire station in Juanita

The City of Kirkland has multiple projects in the works to ensure fire response times are as quick as possible. Last month, the city held an informational meeting to gather public input on and share information about the creation of a new fire station 24 in Juanita. The impetus for the project is to decrease response times in North Kirkland, especially on Finn Hill.

Lacey City Council rejects fire district's annexation request

Lacey City Council on Thursday rejected a Lacey Fire District 3 annexation request, ultimately deciding that the move did not show the right return on investment for the city. ā€œIā€™m in favor of the annexation, but not under the current financial conditions,ā€ Councilman Jeff Gadman said. Lacey Fire District 3ā€™s annexation request is related to a capital facilities and equipment plan recently approved by the fire commission.

Fire severely damages Key Peninsula home

A fire severely damaged a Vaughn-area home Thursday night, according to the Key Peninsula Fire Department. Firefighters arrived to find the single-family home in the 9500 block of Wright-Bliss Road visibly on fire about 6 p.m., Fire Chief Guy Allen said. Fire ended up going through the roof of the home and also caught the garage on fire, Allen said.

Houston firefighter's death reflects problem of suicide among first responders

At first, Jason Hamilton's death seemed like a tragic accident. The 12-year veteran Houston firefighter was eastbound on I-10 near Brookshire just after the morning rush hour on Jan.27 when suddenly his truck swerved across the median into oncoming traffic, striking another vehicle. At first, authorities thought it might have been a tire problem that sparked the crash that also killed Shelley McKay, 61.
