Update: ATF offers reward in Yakima Bi-Mart arson that caused over $1 million dollars in damages

Burglars set a Yakima Bi-Mart on fire causing more than $1 million dollars in damage. and stealing dozens of guns. Two of the firearms have been recovered and one suspect has been arrested. However, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms (ATF) says there are two more suspects to catch and is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to their arrest.

Skagit County Fire District 3 chief retires after 44 years

After 44 years, Skagit County Fire District 3 is looking for a new chief. Longtime Chief John Van Pelt turned in his gear and his keys at the district’s Cedardale Station surrounded by friends and family — including his son Eric, a third-generation firefighter who works with the Mount Vernon Fire Department.

Port Angeles Medic 1 rate to increase, but by how much?

City council members have endorsed a Medic 1 residential rate increase of at least 56 cents a month by July 1 to fund two new firefighter-paramedic positions — the first fire department staff increase in 26 years. The rate increases would affect 10,185 ratepayers beginning July 1. But the Port Angeles City Council took a wait-and-see attitude at a Feb.

Fire Dept. Purchases Ladder Truck

The Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department signed a contract to purchase a new aerial truck earlier this week. Fire officials will be going through Pierce Manufacturing for a truck that will cost $903,000. The 105-foot Pierce Arrow XT is expected to be delivered midway through 2018 and will be housed at the Potomac Street fire station.

The fire department has been in the planning stages for more than a year, forming a capital replacement committee to review proposals and pricing from multiple manufacturers.
