Kittitas County Fire Chiefs Association voices concerns over road variance requests

The Kittitas County Fire Chiefs Association has raised their concerns about existing road variance procedures within Kittitas County’s government. According to a letter obtained by a Daily Record public records request sent April 13 to Kittitas County’s Dan Carlson, the director of Community Development Services and the Variance Committee from the Kittitas County Fire Chiefs Association President Brandon Schmidt, the fire chiefs are seeing variances granted “strictly for aesthetic or economic reasons with no consideration as to mitigation of risk.

Toxic chemical train derailments spark safety concerns in Washington

VIDEO: In the place where a train derailed in March, Earl Cowan remembered getting the phone call. “I think my initial response was, are you serious?” Cowan is the police chief for the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community. Two locomotives derailed on the reservation, spilling three thousand gallons of diesel on the ground, not far from the waters where the Swinomish people have long fished.

Video captures scary truck fire in Kentucky leaving man unable to stop vehicle while driving

A driver in Rockcastle County is unharmed after a scary moment caught on video. The Mount Vernon Fire Department said their chief, David Bales, was on his way to the fire station Friday morning when he was met by a truck on fire. The driver was headed north on Highway 25 approaching Mount Vernon when the chief noticed the fire coming from the hood and engine compartment area of the truck.

Maryland mom sets up training drill for son who dreams of becoming a firefighter

VIDEO: Tiara Grant said that since he was a little boy, her 11-year-old son Darrien has always dreamed of becoming a firefighter. Tiara said she has been taking Darrien to visit fire stations since he was three years old. “It just never stopped. It was always ‘I want to be a firefighter for Halloween,’ or he would watch shows about being a firefighter,” said Tiara.
