TORONTO, Ohio — An Ohio Valley fire department has obtained a much needed vehicle. Toronto residents can feel much safer in the wake of a fire thanks to a new purchase by their fire department.
A rescue truck was officially put into service on Thursday, much to the joy of Toronto Fire Chief Bill Scheel.
“It was actually a demo that had never made the road yet. It met our needs, so we were able with the help of the mayor and city council were able to purchase the vehicle,” Scheel said.
It's a timely improvement for the city of Toronto. After three of their vehicles took a turn for the worse, the department began looking for a solution.
The new engine has enough storage to make up for all three disabled vehicles with shelving on the sides and special compartments on the roof for even more storage.
“This will carry all of our road gear, all of our rescue equipment for our confined space, our communications, our hydraulics for vehicles extrication,” Scheel said.
With this purchase the city of Toronto now has six fire trucks. With a new designated go-to truck, Chief Scheel sees a bright future for the city.
