Mother seriously burned while saving 3 children from Spokane Valley fire

A mother is being credited with saving her three children from their burning home near Spokane Valley, but the mother and oldest child both remain in critical condition. The Spokesman-Review reports that the woman suffered third-degree burns and collapsed in the front doorway after getting the children out of the house as the fire burned late Friday night.

4 Burned In Newman Lake Fire

Saturday morning four people were being treated for burns after their home burned in Newman Lake, Washington. According to Spokane Valley Fire Department, the fire started just after midnight near Starr Rd. and Trent Ave. The fire department says when they arrived they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the home and people outside with burns.

New Bellevue firefighter inspiring, educating others after severe stroke

There are some traits we expect all firefighters have. Bravery and determination come to mind. Bellevue firefighter Phil Pierson needed those traits more than ever when he suffered a stroke that could have killed him, or at least killed his career. "Being a medic and a firefighter is the best job in the world," Pierson said.

Bainbridge Island fire station getting full-time staffing

There's a sign on the island that Bainbridge Island Fire Chief Hank Teran is excited to take down. Attached to the lobby door of Fire Station 23, it proclaims in bold, red lettering: "THIS STATION IS NOT STAFFED." Since it was built in 1993, the station has served as a training site and a base for department volunteers, but it hasn't been home to full-time firefighters.
