IFSTA is Soliciting Members for a New Committee to Meet at the 2017 IFSTA Validation Conference

Written for firefighters by firefighters!

Written for firefighters by firefighters! This is not simply an advertising slogan — it is the
way that International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) manuals have been written and
validated for 80 years. In order to produce new and revised IFSTA manuals, a collaborative effort
is required between the staff members at Oklahoma State University’s Fire Protection Publications
(FPP) and members of the IFSTA validating committee assigned to that project.

IFSTA committee members are subject-matter experts from all areas of the fire industry who provide

assistance in reviewing and approving draft chapters for new manuals. Committee members
also provide assistance in obtaining research materials, photographs, and other information
needed to produce a finished manual. Committees typically complete their work in a one- to two year
time frame, during which two to four in-person and several electronic web-based meetings
may be held. Meetings held in conjunction with the July IFSTA Validation Conference are
attended at the member’s own expense. Committee members may be reimbursed by FPP
for transportation and lodging expenses for the IFSTA Winter Meeting.

Scott Safety Announces NFPA 1981 Certifications for Scott Sight for SCBA

Monroe, NC—This week, Scott Safety reached a significant milestone for firefighter safety, when its Scott Sight thermal intelligence system was third-party certified to NFPA 1981. Scott Sight, which was first announced at FDIC Internatinoal 2016, is an industry-first technology that enhances firefighter safety by providing hands-free thermal imaging capability for every firefighter. Since that introduction, the product has undergone extensive testing in training, independent laboratories, and certification environments, to ensure that it meets Scott Safety’s high standards for safety, durability, quality, and performance, culminating in the recent NFPA approvals.

Scott Sight integrates a lightweight, in-mask display with a miniature, mask-mounted and hands-free thermal camera that keeps the thermal image within the firefighter’s field of view at all times. This innovation provides the firefighter with a new set of eyes on the fireground, improving speed of victim location, enhancing firefighter orientation, and enabling immediate identification of escape routes should the situation deteriorate.

With these breakthrough capabilities, Scott has received a large number of new orders since its initial announcement, and with these new approvals, customer deliveries have started immediately. “After months of anticipation and preparation, we are excited to now be shipping to our customers,” said Kim Henry, Director of Growth Initiatives for Scott Safety. “Scott Sight is a game-changer for the fire services, and further advances Scott Safety’s promise to enhance the safety of our firefighters.”
