Utah deputy chief put on leave for reporting dept. safety concerns

A deputy fire chief was temporarily placed on administrative leave after citing broken air conditioning as a safety threat to firefighters on-duty. Chief Rick Rasmussen said that for the last seven years the air conditioning frequently doesn’t work, making the station too hot to sleep in. “When you have sleep deprivation you can’t think well, your motor skills are having problems,” Rasmussen said.

Former Connecticut firefighter convicted of bribery to get $36,000 disability pension

A former city firefighter convicted of attempted bribery has been approved for a disability pension of $36,405 a year from the city. The pension for Aaron Brantley, 36, was recently approved by vote of the trustees of the New Haven Police & Fire Retirement Fund Board. Because the powers of his official position as a city firefighter were not used in the crime for which he was convicted, the state’s pension revocation statute does not apply to Brantley, according to a spokeswoman for the state Office of the Attorney General.

Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue volunteer named officer of the year

Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue announced recently that one of its members was recently recognized by the Washington State Fire Fighters Association as the Statewide Volunteer Firefighter Officer of the Year. Volunteer Captain Pat Busby was presented with this prestigious award on June 4th at the 93rd Annual Conference in Wenatchee.

Spokane County Fire District 4 breaks ground on new station

Spokane County Fire District 4 broke ground this week on the second of three new fire stations funded by a voter-approved bond in late 2014. The fire district held an event for emergency personnel and members of its Citizen Advisory Group to commemorate the occasion. The new Station 48 will be located at N17711 Mount Spokane Park Road in Mead.

Deer Park: Crews begin week-long fire season training

The threat of wildfires is a big concern with summer just a few days away. Saturday marked day one of the Eastern Washington Fire Training Academy at Deer Park High School. The academy is a "one stop shop" for multiple agencies to come together for wildland fire training. More than 500 firefighters will come to Deer Park High School this week, eager to improve their fire fighting skills.
