Despite fears, number of oil trains still increasing in Port of Tacoma

The Union Pacific oil train that derailed June 3 in Mosier, Oregon, rolled into the Port of Tacoma Sunday with little notice, despite the intense scrutiny its wreck, spill and fire attracted to the expanding practice of shipping crude oil by rail through the Columbia River gorge and the greater Pacific Northwest.

Obituary: Chief Cecil A. Little

November 18, 1928 - June 17, 2016

Cecil A. Little, 87 of Anacortes, Washington passed away on June 17, 2016, surrounded by family and his lodge brothers.

Cecil was born November 18, 1928, in Wink, Texas. He married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Clara Jean Richardson on September 13, 1946, and spent the next 69 years raising a family. Cecil loved traveling, writing poetry, singing and playing the guitar, woodworking and making glass garden flowers.

Kennewick shed fire sends one woman to the hospital

Firefighters rushed to a call of a fire and explosions at a Kennewick home late Thursday night. It happened around 9:20 p.m. Officers say they responded to reports of a large shed on fire, an explosion, and an unconscious woman lying down by the shed. The 50-year-old woman was uncooperative, and transported to Trios.

North Carolina firefighter collapses during workout, later dies at hospital

A firefighter with Alexis Fire Department went out for a jog while on duty Thursday morning but never made it back to the fire station. "He was an outstanding person, great guy to be around and he loved the fire service and everything it stood for," said Lt. Robert Drew of Alexis Fire Department. According to officials, firefighter Joshua Warren had just returned from a medical call when he took part in a physical fitness training at East Lincoln Middle School.
