New York firefighters work to move past blaze at station

After a fire destroyed a rescue truck and damaged the entire Poland Volunteer Fire Co. firehouse Sunday, Fire Chief Scott Burritt has a whole new perspective on how a fire affects someone’s life. “We see fires on a regular basis, we go to people’s car fires, we go to people’s house fires, to brush fires and that type of stuff,” he said.

2 injured as flames tear through Seattle home

A homeowner and a firefighter were injured as flames tore through a home in West Seattle Monday morning. Firefighters were dispatched to a home in the Arbor Heights neighborhood, near 102nd Street and 38th Avenue SW shortly after 10 a.m. Seattle Fire said medics treated the elderly homeowner for minor smoke inhalation as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

Men rack up most overtime in Vancouver, Clark County

Public safety personnel worked millions of dollars in overtime for the city of Vancouver and Clark County last year, and men earned most of it. Out of the top-50 overtime earners in the city in 2015, one was a woman. In the county, four were women. Fire Battalion Chief Kevin Griffee took home the most overtime in the city, earning $88,311 last year in addition to his base salary of $129,528.

Police arrest Port Angeles teen after Black Diamond crash, rescue

A Port Angeles teen was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault after the SUV he was driving plunged almost 400 feet down a Black Diamond Road embankment, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said. Gunner S. Gallauher, 18, was booked into the Clallam County jail Friday after the wreck, which was reported to Clallam County Fire District No.
