A groundbreaking study in Illinois could change the way firefighters attack the hottest and most dangerous fires. The Milwaukee Fire Department is taking part in the study, but a retired New York City battalion chief says the researchers are all wet.
It may sound elementary, but scientists in suburban Chicago are studying whether applying water on a fire from the outside should come before search and rescue on the inside.

Fire chiefs captured in racy photos on what was supposed to be a business trip are still in the hot seat. The county manager wants their boss to resign, but chief Steven Gonzales refuses to turn in a letter of resignation. "There's been a lot of public outcry," county manager Danny Monette said.

Firefighters and emergency service providers working for Reedy Creek Improvement District, protested a stalled contract negotiations Sunday by picketing at the Disney Springs reopening.
The protest ran from 9 a.m. to noon with about 50 emergency responders participating.
The issue is the contract talks are now at impasse and awaiting a decision from a special magistrate over pay and health insurance, as well as cancer and wellness screenings.

More firefighters arrived in Snohomish County Saturday night to fight a 325-acre wildfire that's burning near Gold Bar.
Steady rain throughout the day Saturday helped firefighters catch a much-needed break on the fire lines. The fire is 10 percent contained, officials with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources said Saturday night.

Whitman County Rural Fire District 12 Chief Lester Erwin's interest in fire service was first sparked when he was a young boy.
"When I lived in Albion, the fire siren would go off and the chief would go flying by our house, and I would chase after him on my bike," the 56-year-old said. Erwin said he would watch the crews load into their engines and he often followed the trucks if the call was close by.
