Fire in Seattle condo burns across from Pike Place Market

A fire broke out Wednesday morning on the sixth floor of a condominium complex across from Pike Place Market. It was reported around 6:30 a.m. at 2030 Western Avenue. Flames could be seen coming out a window. Firefighters fought the fire from a balcony above the window and had the flames out in a few minutes.

Former Moses Lake fire chief announces bid for county commissioner

In the wake of Grant County Commissioner Carolann Swartz announcing she will not be seeking a third term, former Moses Lake Fire Department Chief Tom Taylor announced his candidacy for the position. Swartz, who represents District No. 2, made the announcement that she wouldn’t be running for reelection on Thursday, with Taylor announcing his candidacy shortly thereafter on Thursday.

New York town eliminates paid firefighter positions

The village eliminated its eight paid firefighters and will go forward with an all-volunteer fire service, a move officials say will save $800,000 in the next year. The village board of trustees voted Monday night to cut the positions as part of a budget-balancing measure, but an attorney for the axed workers said the timing implied there was more going on.
