Former Albuquerque paramedic and mixed martial arts cutman Brad Tate fought his way into the Albuquerque Fire Department by taking legal action. His protracted legal fight to try to keep his job has cost the city more than $330,000.
Tate, an AFD lieutenant with a decadelong career, was fired in 2013 after the city Personnel Board found he had provided substandard care, intimidated and bullied patients and their families and falsified records to show that patients who called 911 had refused care and transportation.

An off-duty firefighter died Thursday night after he was struck by a vehicle in Vancouver’s Fircrest neighborhood, Vancouver Fire Department Chief Joe Molina said.
Andrew Miller, 27, was walking near his home in the 500 block of Northeast 112th Avenue when he was struck by a northbound vehicle at about 10:30 p.

Washington cattlemen now will be able to legally rescue their livestock from wildfires.
Gov. Jay Inslee has signed House Bill 2925, which requires fire crews to allow ranchers into wildfire areas to retrieve cattle and livestock as long as it does not interfere with firefighting operations.
Under the new law, fire commanders are relieved of liability for cattlemen who go into a wildfire area to rescue animals.
