Spokane County Man To Forge Symbolic Axe To Help Struggling Firefighters

Symbolism can be very powerful. Several years ago, a Texas blacksmith created a small steel sword that is now used as part of a ritual aimed at preventing veterans from committing suicide. And now a disabled veteran from Elk, Washington is crafting a similar symbol for struggling first responders. About four years ago, a retired Marine officer named Steve Danyluk and a friend, Danny Prince, were talking about the rising rate of suicides among military veterans.

Two people injured in Longview apartment fire

Two people were injured in an apartment fire in Longview Wednesday evening, fire officials said. Longview Police and Fire responded to a reported fire at the Fremont Village Apartments on 3rd Avenue at 6:20 p.m. A 911 caller told dispatch that people were trapped inside one unit. Crews knocked down the fire within 10 minutes of arriving at the scene and found one person unresponsive in the first-floor hallway.

Car fire sparks warning from troopers as summer approaches

VIDEO: A car went up in flames along I-82, Wednesday evening. It’s sparking a warning from state troopers. Firefighters were seen dousing the flames. The Toyota Camry became a total loss. State troopers say the driver noticed a strange noise coming from the engine, that's when she got out and called 911.

Chehalis Fire Department In Search of New Chief; Cardinale to Transfer to LCFD6 by September

Ken Cardinale, who has been serving as both the Chehalis Fire Department Fire Chief and Lewis County Fire District 6 Interim Chief, has accepted a full-time fire chief position with LCFD6 and will be leaving the Chehalis Fire Department. Cardinale’s transition from LCFD6 Interim Chief to full-time fire chief will go into effect on Sept.

Chehalis to Place Emergency Fire Station on Now-Vacant Land on Arkansas Way

After considering more than a dozen possible sites, the Chehalis city council agreed Monday to place an emergency fire station on Arkansas Way, between Walmart and Home Depot, and formally declared an emergency that assigns contracting authority to the city manager. City staff, specifically City Manager Jill Anderson and Public Works Director Trent Lougheed have been in the process of analyzing 15 possible locations for an emergency fire station and after presenting the most promising three options, the council selected and are moving forward with preparing the city-owned site on Arkansas Way.
