As the Fire Department Safety Officers Association’s (FDSOA) apparatus symposium concluded, its annual safety forum opened with an overlap presentation by Gordon Graham, a long-time champion of public safety responders.
For more than three hours, Graham educated and entertained firefighters from all over the country with a simple, yet profound message focused on risk management and how firefighters can better protect themselves.

Fire tore through a Yakima home Thursday evening, leaving the house damaged and two dogs missing and feared dead.
The fire was reported just before 8 p.m. at 200 W. Bartlett Place. Firefighters said they arrived to find an active fire that could have spread to engulf the whole house. They were able to extinguish the flames within minutes, but not before the blaze caused what firefighters called “significant” damage to the home.

A Kennewick woman was able to rescue her husband from the Columbia River after he fell off a kayak into the chilly water while duck hunting in Finley.
Justin and Melody Priest decided to test their luck Thursday morning at a new hunting spot downriver from Sandvik Special Metals off Straight Bank Road.
