The ACLU has filed a sex discrimination charge with the Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights and the E-E-O-C on behalf of Former Harmony EMT and Firefighter Kimberly Perreault. "I just think that the board and the chief should be held accountable for their actions,” said Perreault. Perreault had been with the volunteer fire district for 12 years working primarily as an EMT.

Soptich, 58, had earlier announced he would leave the position he first took in 2000 at the end of January. His plan now is to leave at the end of November. A fire broke out in a Pasco woman's kitchen while she was cooking Thursday, say firefighters. City of Pasco Fire Chief Bob Gear says the elderly woman cooking at her home on 14th and Howard in Pasco believed she had the fire under control. Fire officials say there was heavy smoke in the attic area.
