Seattle neighbors rally around 'Holiday House' after fire

Neighbors in a Seattle neighborhood say they want to help after fire damaged a house known for spreading holiday cheer. Two people were inside a home in the 4200 block of Latona when a fire started Tuesday afternoon. The couple inside escaped, but one of their pets perished in the fire. The home stands out on the street in the Wallingford neighborhood.

Longview mother throws own kids from window to save them from weekend fire

It's clear Chiann James is still in shock. She's surveying the damage left behind by a fire in her duplex, a fire which almost killed her entire family. A neighbor's camera captured Chiann and her husband screaming for help Sunday night. And they got that help in the form of that same neighbor, Mark Hedgpeth, who rushed toward the flames.

Plan to install security cameras at Vashon Island Fire Department draws criticism

The Vashon Island Fire & Rescue Board of Commissioners voted last week to install a roughly $15,000 security surveillance camera system, but commissioner candidate Brigitte Schran-Brown and firefighters who are part of the local union were quick to call for a second look at the project. Schran-Brown says her call for reconsideration comes mostly because the cameras are to be installed inside the vehicle and maintenance bays where staff members work, not simply outside, and that installing them raises both financial and morale concerns at the district, which faces challenges in both areas.
