The community came together to rescue a horse on Thursday morning.
Clallam County Fire District 3 reports a horse, named J.D., wandered into Meadowbrook Creek sometime in the evening on Wednesday, Aug. 5, behind 82 Meadow Drive near Sequim-Dungeness Way.
Law enforcement and rescue teams were called around 8:30 a.

At least one person was killed when a car smashed into a power pole overnight and then caught fire when live power lines fell around it. Neighbors said the crash happened about 1 a.m. Friday when the car came speeding down Renton Avenue South near South 116th Place in Seattle’s Rainier Valley.
It crashed into a utility pole, flipping several times before catching fire.

After months of public battles, the city reached a deal with the firefighters union Thursday on the partial restoration of disability benefits — while also agreeing on a tentative seven-year employment contract.
The pension deal would restore firefighters hired after 2009 to a 75 percent retirement benefit if injured — up from 50 percent of final salary — but would require they contribute an additional 3 percent of their pay to help fund it.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu and the New Orleans City Council have until Aug. 21 to begin paying firefighters a judgment worth a potential $142 million, or they will be held in contempt, a Civil District Court judge told officials Thursday (Aug. 6).
The council is scheduled to meet the day before the deadline, Judge Kern Reese said.
