A fire captain fell through the roof while battling a restaurant fire on Miramar Road Wednesday, which forced a worker to be hospitalized. The Spokane Valley Fire Department is mourning the loss of firefighter and paramedic Capt. Steve Hatcher, who died today. Department spokeswoman Melanie Rose said late Wednesday that Hatcher died after having a medical issue while off duty. Further details will be released Thursday, Rose said. Hatcher had been with the department for more than 20 years.
