Shawnee Township (OH) Debuts New Emergency Vehicles

The Shawnee Township Fire Department has put into service two new vehicles to better serve the community in the past three weeks, LimaOhio.com reported.

Medic 12, a new ambulance, went into service about three weeks ago, while Engine 2 went into service on Saturday, a fire official said. Both vehicles have advantages in technology to improve fire and rescue responses and the safety of fire personnel, the report said.

The department was able to add the vehicles following the passing of a levy in November 2021.

The fire truck, a 2022 Pierce Enforcer Rescue Pumper, costs $810,000 and can hold 1,000 gallons of water, compared to 850 in the department’s current trucks. It uses a Paccar Diesel engine and can move 1,500 gallons per minute with its pump, the report said.

The ambulance, a 2022 Ford F550 4×4 Braun Ambulance, cost $270,000 and took two years from being ordered to its manufacture due to supply chain issues, according to the report.

Marquette (MI) Approves Buying Used Fire Truck

The Marquette City Commission on Monday unanimously approved the purchase of a used fire truck at a cost significantly less than the price of a new one, MiningJournal.net reported.

In past years, the Marquette Fire Department has used two 2004 Pierce Arrow XT fire trucks in daily operations, according to a background document from the city. However, within the last six months, both trucks were removed from service due to frame corrosion and cracking issues, the report said.

One new truck has been ordered, but the city will not receive it for at least 12 months, the report said. A used truck was purchased in June to replace the first pumper truck that had failed.

Staff recommended buying a second used pumper to minimize the hours put on the aging aerial truck until the new pumper truck is in service. Purchasing a second used truck also will push back the need for an additional new pumper for another five to seven years, according to the report.

The purchase price of the truck is not to exceed $48,000, the report said.

A city official said the price of a new truck is about $800,000, a price that is scheduled to increase 10 to 15 percent in the next few months and continue to rise, according to the report.
