Slick roads hinder fire crews in Spokane County

Roads get snowy and icy this time of year, that's why we have plows, deicer and sanders to make those roads drivable. But for one neighborhood just south of Newman Lake, neighbors claim those roads aren't treated nearly as much as they should be. Although the hill on Campbell Rd is sanded and plowed now, neighbors say that's not normally the case.

Video: San Diego (CA) Firefighters Use Aerial to Rescue Worker from Trench

San Diego firefighters responded to a construction site Wednesday to extricate an injured worker from a trench.

The male construction worker was in a 10-foot-deep trench at about 11 a.m. pumping water out when a piece of metal shoring came off and struck the man and injured him. The trench did not collapse, but the injuries made it impossible for him to extricate himself, 911 Video News reported.

Battalion Chief Tommy Charpentier said rescuers had to go into the trench, immobilize the victim and lift him out of the trench using the department’s aerial ladder.

The rescue took about one hour. The victim was transported to a local hospital and his status is not known at this time.
