Kirksville City Council members and city staff reviewed the entire 2018 proposed budget during a study session meeting last week. The city’s budget is expected to have about $38.2 million in total expenditures.

The Kirksville Fire Department is seeking about $2 million for department expenditures, which is about an $88,000 difference when compared to the its 2017 adopted budget of $1.9 million.

The Kirksville Fire Department is preparing to receive its new fire truck in 2018.

In April, the Kirksville City Council approved the purchase of a fire truck from the Sutphen Corporation; and in June, the City Council approved a financing agreement with U.S. Bancorp for the purchase of the truck.

Firefighters were sent to the hospital Saturday, from an accident after responding to a fire in Washington County. On state route 550, a fire truck was involved in an accident where it rolled off the road. It happened after 10:30 Saturday morning between mile posts thirteen and fourteen.

AUGUSTA - Nothing brought more joy to Tom Maclay than owning, driving, and showing to children what he learned through years of research was Augusta's first motorized firetruck, a 1917 White-Kress. The Marshfield, Vermont, man and veteran firefighter still loves the old truck, almost as if it was a member of his family.
