From house fires to car accidents, firefighters are trained to respond to emergency situations.
If we already trust these men and women in those moments, why not trust them with smaller jobs around the home?
That’s the idea behind a new app called “Hidrent,” spelled a little differently.
It’s a service that connects off duty firefighters with anyone in the area who needs a task completed.

For years, Allentown EMS has had carbon monoxide detectors available for crew, but only one detector per ambulance.
After a significant number of carbon monoxide incidents last year, the city moved to get a wearable monitor for each full-time EMS employee.
“We’ve had the meters, but we wanted to take it a step further, use them more,” said Mehmet Barzev, chief of EMS operations for the city of Allentown.

Starting Jan 1, 2023, Tukwila will join Covington, Maple Valley, Kent and SeaTac in contracting with the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority for services.
Josh Kelch is the Support Services Battalion Chief for the Tukwila Fire Department and said regionalization of fire service is happening across the country.

Fire crews responded on Wednesday to a fire at Pounder Excavation in North Spokane.
According to Spokane County Fire District #9 Assistant Chief Jim Walkowski, nobody was hurt in the fire, but it was hard to put out due to heavy black smoke.
The cause is under investigation.

Several U.S. Congressional and local leaders will hold a roundtable discussion Thursday on the Bolt Creek wildfire and its impact on the main nearby highway, U.S. 2.
The attendees include U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, U.S. Rep. Kim Schrier, U.S. Rep. Suzan DelBene, as well as the mayors of Skykomish, Index, and Sultan -- the communities most impacted by the wildfire.
