Starting Nov. 1, firefighters who were let go from South King Fire and Rescue because of the state’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate will be allowed to come back to work.
The agency’s board of directors voted unanimously during their Sept. 27 meeting to authorize Fire Chief Dave Mataftin to let unvaccinated firefighters return beginning Nov.

A year of preparations and negotiations has led to a new, four-year contract for firefighters with the City of Fort Worth.
The Fort Worth City Council unanimously approved the agreement on Oct. 25 following 97.4% approval of the proposal by the 970 members of the association. The agreement is the fourth collectively bargained agreement between the city and firefighters, according to the Fort Worth Professional Firefighters Association.

The Camas-Washougal Fire Department has a new fire chief.
Camas Mayor Steve Hogan announced this week that he has selected interim Fire Chief Cliff Free to fill the role on a permanent basis.
Free has worked with the Camas-Washougal Fire Department since 2005, and was the department’s division chief for emergency medical services since 2012.

VIDEO: “Multiple” businesses on Main Street in historic downtown Sumner were damaged in a fire early Friday morning.
The fire on the 900 block of Main Street was first reported around 2:30 a.m.
East Pierce Fire said 30 units were on the scene battling the 3-alarm fire just after 5 a.m. Crews were able to get the fire contained and it was "no longer spreading" just before 5:20 a.
