The Kingsley Fire Department has received a $100,000 award from the Missouri River Historical Development for a new tanker truck, LeMarsSentinel.com reported.
The new 2,000-gallon tanker truck will replace the current 1,800-gallon tanker bought in 1986, the report said. The old truck will be auctioned off by sealed bids once the new one arrives in December 2023. There are seven trucks in total used by the 35 members of the Kingsley Fire Department, including a tanker pumper truck that was delivered early in 2022, two grass rigs and four other tanker trucks.
Along with the MRHD grant, funds to buy the new truck come from the fire department’s tax dollars and proceeds from the ticket sales and donations at the annual Kingsley Fire Department Dueling Pianos fundraiser, according to the report.
MRHD is a non-profit organization that holds the gaming license for the Hard Rock Casino in Sioux City. It awards grants annually to Woodbury County and those adjacent counties in Iowa. Over $45 million has been awarded since 1994. This year, 10 Impact Match grants were awarded, including the one for the tanker truck.
