There’s a happy band of firefighters in Marion (OH) today after voters solidly threw their support behind a tax levy that benefits the city’s fire department, MarionStar.com reported.
According to unofficial results from the Marion County Board of Elections, the City of Marion Fire Department’s tax levy passed by 1,117 votes in Tuesday’s general election. The final tally was 4,155 votes (57.76%) in favor of the levy and 3,038 votes (42.24%) against it.
A fire official said the money generated by the levy will be used to replace the existing Station 1 at 186 South Prospect Street; put the department’s rolling stock (fire trucks, EMS vehicles, etc.) on a regular 15-year replacement schedule; and conduct necessary updates and improvements to Stations 2 (1069 Bellefontaine Avenue) and 3 (599 Jefferson Street), the report said.
The proposed 20,000 square foot, single-level fire station will cost approximately $9 million to build, the report said.
