The cause of a massive fire at a Modesto pallet yard is under investigation, the Modesto Fire Department said on Saturday.
The blaze brought crews from across Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties Friday evening to get control of the fire burning in an industrial area of the city.
“Every alarm we had responded,” said Battalion Chief Jim Black.

"This is a tributary to Lycoming Creek, and this came through and undercut the fire hall and the entire embankment and collapsed the road," said Peter Swift, Camp Director at Camp Susque.

VIDEO: Last month, two young paddleboarders found themselves stranded in the ocean, pushed 2,000 feet from the shore by strong winds and currents. Thanks to the deployment of a drone, rescuers kept an eye on them the whole time and safely brought them aboard a rescue boat within minutes.
In North Carolina, the Oak Island Fire Department is one of a few in the country using drone technology for ocean rescues.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released the biggest causes of mortality in 2023.
The report, published by the agency on Aug. 8, was based on death records from the National Vital Statistics System.
A total of 3,090,582 deaths occurred in the U.S. in 2023, a decline of 6.

A house fire in Concrete, Washington, killed several people including a contract employee of Skagit County.
Deputies from the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) were dispatched to a reported fire in a building in the 15000 block of SR WA-530 at approximately 10:24 a.m. on Aug. 9.
A two-story home was destroyed by the fire, according to the Mount Vernon Police Department (MVPD).
