Forks family escapes blaze that burns down house

Four family members escaped a burning house uninjured with little more than the clothes they were wearing, Forks-area Fire District 1 Chief Bill Paul said. There were no injuries in the fire reported at 3:58 a.m. Friday that destroyed the house in the 2000 block of Calawah Way outside the Forks city limits, Paul said.

Police: Second fire at Bellevue mosque not a hate crime

Police say investigators do not believe that a fire at a vacant mosque in Bellevue last week was a hate crime. Bellevue Police Chief Steve Mylett told a community meeting Saturday that those involved will be brought to justice, but he said there's nothing to indicate that the blaze was started as a result of hate or bias toward the Muslim community.

Auburn house fire exposes marijuana grow operation

A fire at a home in Auburn Sunday afternoon exposed a small marijuana grow operation, police said. Firefighters were dispatched to the home near F Street NE and 2nd Street NE just before 3:30 p.m. Valley Regional Fire officials said three adults and a child lived in the home, but only one adult was inside at the time of the fire.

Olympia Fire Chief Larry Dibble, the longest serving fire chief in the city’s history, says farewell

After 44 years in the fire service — 20 as Olympia fire chief — Larry Dibble, 65, will call it a career at the end of the month. He is the longest serving fire chief in the city’s history. The next fire chief will be current deputy fire chief Greg Wright. But Wright is set to retire, too, so he expects to serve 18 months in that role before a new chief is appointed by the Olympia city manager.

First of fire district annexation forums gleans top issues from Port Townsend residents

Residents participating in the first round-table discussion of the issues surrounding a proposal to annex the city of Port Townsend into the East Jefferson Fire Rescue district identified housing as the most critical issue facing the city. Fifty residents participated in a forum on Thursday which was set to address community needs and priorities.
