A house fire in Castle Rock killed two dogs and a cat Wednesday, according to Cowlitz 6 Fire & Rescue.
The fire broke out at about 9:52 a.m. in the 100 block of Milton Road and was confined to one room in a one-story single family residence. Captain Andrew Schneider said no one was home at the time, and firefighters had it out by 10:10 a.

Police in Olympia say a 35-year-old woman died after emergency crews tried to sedate her early Wednesday.
Olympia firefighters responded to a fire alarm at an apartment complex on the 1200 block of Fern Street Southwest shortly after 1 a.m. The woman pulled the fire alarm “while in crisis ... apparently suffering from mental illness and/or acute effects of substance use,” according to a news release.

Even though we’re still in the middle of winter, it’s never too early to start thinking about fire season.
The Spokane Fire Department recently compiled data from wildland fire response activity over the last five years, showing the areas that saw the most calls within the city. Josh Mulvey lives in one of those “hot spots” near Minnehaha Park.

An off-duty Seattle firefighter driving south on Interstate 5 Tuesday morning stopped and pulled a man from a flaming pickup truck, possibly saving his life, said Chief Ken Cardinale of the Chehalis Fire Department.
“There was a hero on the scene,” he said. “He was just on his way to work and came upon the accident and the most serious injury was in the pickup truck, and the pickup truck was on fire.

For two consecutive years, Clallam County Fire District 3’s call load has risen above 7,000 and thousands more than a few years prior.
In 2017, the Sequim-area had 7,224 emergency calls with about 86-percent, or 6,187 of those Emergency Medical Service-related, or EMS, reports Fire Chief Ben Andrews.
