Clallam County Fire District 3 names Firefighters of the Year

Sequim natives. Wives. Mothers. And now Firefighters of the Year. Fellow career and volunteer firefighters with Clallam County District 3 selected Stefanie Anderson, a career firefighter/paramedic, and Anaka Hughes, a volunteer firefighter/EMT, as 2017’s Firefighters of the Year. Anderson was named Career Firefighter of the Year and Hughes Volunteer Firefighter of the Year on Jan.

Timber worker rescued after spending night 20 feet down sinkhole in Grays Harbor County

A timber worker was rescued Tuesday after getting stuck overnight 20 feet down a sinkhole in Grays Harbor County. It happened in a logging area off W. Satsop Road, about six and a half miles northwest of the town of Brady. According to Grays Harbor Fire District 2, the man was out surveying on Monday and marking areas that could be prone to sinkholes when one opened up and he fell in.

Fire damages several apartments in Seattle's Beacon Hill

Investigators believe a fire at complex in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood Tuesday afternoon was intentionally set. Firefighters were dispatched about 2:40 p.m. to the building at 3601 14th Avenue S. near South Spokane Street. When they arrived, the saw flames coming from several apartments. Beacon Hill fire Investigators said the fire started in the kitchen of a unit on the second floor.

Judge Dismisses Onalaska Fire Commissioner Recall Request

An effort by the former chief of Lewis County Fire District 1 in Onalaska to recall the district’s two sitting commissioners will not reach Onalaska residents’ ballots. Lewis County Superior Court Judge Joely O’Rourke ruled to dismiss all 11 charges in the recall request in a written order Friday, following a hearing Jan.

Bellingham Firefighters face man with gun while responding to medical call

Bellingham firefighters responding to a medical aid call found themselves facing a man with a gun, prompting a police standoff Saturday that closed roads in the Barkley neighborhood for about four hours. “Shortly after they arrived, our crew reported that someone pointed a gun at them,” said Assistant Chief Bill Hewett of the Bellingham Fire Department.
