Spokane County firefighter crashes into tree after medical emergency

A Spokane County firefighter is recovering after crashing his truck into a tree on Sunday afternoon. Spokane County Fire District 4 Assistant Fire Chief Lonnie Rash says it happened on Colbert Road just east of Highway 2. Paramedics say the firefighter behind the wheel had a medical emergency when he lost control of the truck and swerved off the road and crashed.

Woman found dead inside burning Tukwila apartment complex

A woman was pronounced dead after she was pulled from her burning apartment Monday morning in Tukwila, emergency officials said. Firefighters responded to the scene, in the 5700 block of South 152nd Street, at about 8:05 a.m. after receiving reports of a fire at the Hampton Heights Apartments, said Marty Grisham, emergency manager for the city of Tukwila.

Off-duty firefighters in Pierce County show support for Proposition No. 1

Off-duty firefighters in Pierce County turned out across several communities Saturday in hopes of drumming up support for Proposition No. 1. Voters will decide in the Feb. 13 special election whether or not to renew the operations and maintenance levy. The levy was first passed in 2014, and if it's not renewed firefighters say it could lead to slower emergency response times throughout the county.

Benton County firefighters suiting up and climbing for a cause

Thousands of firefighters are getting ready to suit up and climb all 69 floors of Seattle's Columbia Center Tower next month for the 27th Annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb. But they have to earn $300 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society first. Firefighters from Benton County Fire Districts 2 and 4 suited up and spent Sunday raising the funds one step at a time.

Clallam County disaster airlift plan first in state; neighbors in development

Private pilots will provide a lifeline to the North Olympic Peninsula after a catastrophic earthquake destroys the region’s bridges and highways, emergency planners say. Clallam County has become the first county in the state to gear up for the big one by adding a disaster airlift response plan to its comprehensive emergency management plan, officials said.
