Follow Up: New Vancouver fire station sparks inspiration for kids

Four-year-old Sadie Wehling loves to pretend to put out fires and rescue relatives. When her family drives by a fire station, she asks “What’s in there?” That curiosity led her and many other hopeful firefighters to Vancouver Fire Department’s Fire Station 2 on Saturday, blipping around a crowd of more than 50 who attended its grand opening.

Benton County Fire asking voters to help fund a new fire station

Benton County firefighters say they need more resources to keep up with a growing population, and they're asking for the public's help. West Richland has grown by almost 25 percent since 2010, and call times have increased by about 60 percent. Firefighters say response times on the western side average about 16 minutes, and they'd like to get those down to around 6.

Update: The fire cost Richland Fred Meyer millions. Police say it was for heroin.

The fire that shuttered Richland’s Fred Meyer for almost three days and caused millions worth of damage to the store and merchandise allegedly was started to cover up the theft of a PlayStation. Daniel R. Wright was going to trade the video game console with Eliseo J. Garcia for heroin, court documents show.

Fire completely destroys storage building in East Pasco

A fire completely destroyed an agricultural storage building in East Pasco this morning. Officials say that the fire burned a Balcom and Moe storage building just off of Highway 12 near Pasco Kahlotus Road (also known as PK Highway). Pasco Police say that the building only contained potatoes. The storage facility completely collapsed and is a total loss.

Judge to Rule Friday on Request for Recall of Onalaska Fire Commissioners

Frustration in Onalaska following the recent firing of the Lewis County Fire District 1 chief, resignations among volunteers and the district’s commission and the forced closure of its main station by the state Department of Labor and Industries came to a head last month with the filing of a request to recall remaining commissioners Rich Bainbridge and Bill Kassel.
