Compressor stolen Sunday night from Stevens County fire station work site

Thieves broke into the work site of the new Stevens County fire station in Suncrest and stole an 80-gallon air compressor Sunday night. Investigators say the thief or thieves used a grinder or torch to cut into a storage unit to reach the compressor. Officials say the Eagle 7.5 horsepower, 24.6 CFM, 80-gallon compressor was still shrink wrapped and on a pallet.

Fire causes heavy smoke damage to commercial building in Moses Lake

A fire Sunday caused extensive smoke damage to the Western Building on West Broadway Avenue in Moses Lake. Moses Lake Fire Chief Brett Bastian said the fire was reported by a passerby on the activity trail along Neppel Park who noticed smoking coming from the back of the commercial building. Firefighters arrived to find to all the doors locked to the building and nobody inside.

Residents Renew Concerns About Response Times at Onalaska Fire District Meeting

With the resignation of half of Lewis County Fire District 1’s volunteers in the past few months, residents of the Onalaska area have expressed concerns that the losses would lead to increased emergency response times and a threat to community safety. On Thursday, residents said those fears have now become a reality.

Marysville quits fire department merger talks

The city of Marysville is abandoning talks with Arlington about merging fire departments. The two agencies, along with Fire District 12, have been meeting since 2016. They were considering the formation of a regional fire authority, a new government body that would levy its own taxes and provide fire protection and emergency medical services.

Child may have accidentally caused fire at historic Tacoma church

A fire at Tacoma’s historic Saint Patrick Catholic Church may have been accidentally started by a child, according to the Fire Department. No one was injured in Sunday’s blaze, which took place shortly after Mass and caused at least $5,500 in damages. The fire was contained to a nursery room in the basement.
