OTTO & BETTY JENSEN SCHOLARSHIP - WFC Conference 2018

In honor of and at the request of Otto and Betty Jensen, a fund was established in 1996 to pay all the costs (registration, lodging and mileage) to a Volunteer Fire Chief and spouse to attend the WFC Annual Conference. This volunteer chief, due to financial limitations of their organization, would otherwise not be able to attend. Please complete the attached Application and return it to the Fire Chiefs office no later than April 2, 2018.  

Applications will be accepted from volunteer fire chiefs and from those submitting the form on behalf of a volunteer fire chief.

Bill to help first responders with PTSD in Washington state legislature

A bill making its way through the state capital that aims to help our first responders with PTSD. It’s House Bill 1655, which would allow first responders to file an occupational disease claim for PTSD. Michael White, a legislative liaison with the Washington State Council of Firefighters, says the repeated and cumulative exposures is what’s causing the PTSD.

Washington state Legislature takes up bills to restrict chemicals used in firefighting foam, packaging

Firefighting foams containing a class of chemicals linked to water pollution would face major new restrictions under a bill introduced in the Washington state House of Representatives. Some polyfluoroalkyl and perfluoroalkyl chemicals — known as PFAS — have turned up in state waterways and drinking-water wells, and surveys indicate they are present in the blood of most Americans.

Man arrested in arson at Everett apartment complex

A man has been arrested in an arson at an Everett apartment building that injured one woman and may have led to the death of a second woman. Firefighters battled the three-alarm fire at 2229 Colby Avenue on Dec. 21. One woman was hurt when she jumped from a second-floor balcony to escape. A 76-year-old woman, who was hospitalized for smoke inhalation, later died.

Colmore retires after 23 years with Marysville Fire District

After 23 years of service with the Marysville Fire District firefighter/paramedic Russell Colmore will head into retirement. Colmore served for a total of 33 years in the fire service, volunteering in Santa Barbara and working in Virginia before coming to Marysville. "Russell was like the family guy here," said Marysville Fire District captain Basil Bailey.
