Lake Roosevelt bans open flames as fire danger soars

A near-record stretch of temperatures above 90 degrees has cooked the Eastern Washington landscape to tinder dry conditions and land managers are gradually increasing the restrictions to help prevent kicking off another wildfire. The latest announcement is posted today as Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area officials say they will prohibit all fires starting Friday, until further notice.

Former firefighter accused of stealing North Whidbey Fire & Rescue department's boat

A former firefighter is accused of stealing a rescue boat from North Whidbey Fire and Rescue, according to court documents. Police recovered the boat the next day and searched the man’s house, finding other items — including a stretcher — that belonged to the fire department. Prosecutors recently charged the man, Bryan D.

Marysville Fire District firefighters graduate Fire Academy

The Marysville Fire District congratulates three of its newest full-time firefighters who just graduated from the Washington State Patrol Fire Academy. Firefighters Joe Thacker, Solomon Wilson and Ryan Carbary were presented with their diplomas on July 28. Thacker, Wilson and Carbary completed 12 weeks of intense training including live fire/rescue exercises and classroom instruction at the state fire training facility located in North Bend.

Firefighters investigating recent 'suspicious' fires along the Greenway in Yakima

Firefighters are investing the suspicious fires that have been taking place along the Greenway and say these blazes might not have been started accidentally. This is the fourth fire that has burned along the path and firefighters have teamed up with the Yakima police department to investigate the causes.

Part of Highway 99 tunnel project halted over weekend after worker fell from scaffold

Work has stopped on part of the Highway 99 Tunnel project after a worker fell 15 feet from a scaffold over the weekend, according to Seattle Tunnel Partners (STP). It happened early Saturday in the south portal of the tunnel. STP said the worker was on a scaffold which tipped over, causing him to fall.
