Arson suspected in Pullman sandwich shop fire

A fire that broke out just before midnight Sunday at the Subway restaurant at 460 E. Main Street in Pullman has been ruled arson by a joint fire investigation task force in Pullman. Pullman Deputy Fire Marshal Tony Nuttman said the task force went through the charred evidence most of the morning and were able to determine there were apparent multiple points of origin of the fire.

Gas Spill Reminds Bellingham Firefighters of Deadly '99 Blast

A gasoline spill Monday in Whatcom Falls Park, near the site of the deadly 1999 fuel pipeline explosion and fire, caused some concern among Bellingham firefighters and pipeline company officials, but no leak was found. "Our best guess is that somebody either accidentally or intentionally introduced some gas into the storm drain," said Assistant Chief Bill Hewett of the Bellingham Fire Department.

No working smoke detectors in Spokane Valley kitchen fire

Spokane Valley Fire Department units responded to a house fire at Trent and McDonald at about 10 p.m. Sunday night. Arriving firefighters found smoke and flames coming from a window of the home and called for addition units to help put the fire out. Fifteen units responded. Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies called the fire in.

Snohomish County Fire District 7 prepares to move to headquarters in Monroe

By early August, Snohomish County Fire District 7 could move to new headquarters in Monroe. The Clearview-based district merged with Monroe’s fire department last year. Just a few housekeeping matters remain: establishing new headquarters, reducing the number of elected commissioners and consolidating the levies.

Arson suspect arrested for setting fires along Fish Lake Trail in Spokane

Spokane police arrested a suspect Sunday who set a series of small fires along the Fish Lake Trail. Just after 3:30, an off-duty Spokane Police Officer observed a series of small fires on the west side of Highway 105 between the Highway and the Fish Lake Trail. The fires were quickly contained, and there were no evacuations or threats to nearby structures Spokane police tracked the direction of the fire, set up a perimeter around the fire, and detained three suspects.
