New Spokane fire chief making response times top priority

Kittitas County moves fire marshal under CDS Department

Kittitas County will move the fire marshal position under Community Development Services starting June 1. The move comes after the county failed to find a replacement for the fire marshal position in 2016, Commissioner Laura Osiadacz said. The county also considered contracting out fire marshal services with Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue, but decided consolidation made more sense.

Firefighters stop towering brush fire from spreading to structures at Honeywell plant in Spokane Valley

A wall of flame shut down Sullivan Road outside the Spokane Valley Honeywell plant and prompted a heavy response from the Spokane Valley Fire Department Wednesday afternoon. The fire consumed a long row of tall arborvitae bushes that lined the road. When crews arrived the bushes were a wall of flame and embers were blowing across the busy road, said fire department spokeswoman Melanie Rose.

Crews battle house fire near La Conner

Two women were airlifted to a hospital after they were hurt in a house fire near La Conner early Wednesday. A 7-year-old boy was able to escape the home unharmed. Firefighters were called to the home in the 12400 block of Downey Road in Skagit County for a report of a house fire with someone trapped inside at about 3:30 a.

Terrace Heights brush fire spreads rapidly through acres of land

Yakima firefighters are working to determine what started a brush fire on Hartford and Marsh Road near Terrace Heights. Fire crews were called at around 7 o'clock tonight to put out a brush fire that damaged two acres of land. The fire went through a few yards, fences, and railroad tracks. Firefighters say the heavy winds made the fire spread rapidly.
