It all comes after families of firefighters diagnosed with cancer fought for years for more support and funding. It would impact families like Christy Burgess. Her husband Nathan was a Raleigh firefighter and burn instructor who served for decades.

Small wildfire breaks out during concert at Gorge Amphitheatre in Grant County

VIDEO: A small brush fire broke out at the Gorge Amphitheatre during an electronic music concert Saturday night. The Grant County Sheriff's Office says the fire was caused by pyrotechnics used during the show. The brush fire broke out in a small area adjacent to the concert venue during the last song of the set.

Bellevue elementary school playground burns down for second year in a row

PHOTOS: The playground at Phantom Lake Elementary School in Bellevue burned down Saturday night, almost exactly a year after it was destroyed in a firework-related fire. Back on July 9, 2023, Phantom Lake Elementary's playground burned to the ground in a string of fires across Bellevue caused by fireworks.

Spokane County Fire District 3 prepares for wildfires in extreme heat

With the weather heating up in the next week, it’s not a question of “if,” but rather a question of “when” wildfires will happen across the Inland Northwest. Spokane County Fire District 3 Fire Chief Cody Rohobarch says that warmer weather combined with wind leads to wildfires. “We're used to experiencing a lot of wind, and then on top of that, you find the driest timber habitat type in eastern Washington,” said Rohobarch.

Fire tears through former Eastlake Bar & Grill in Seattle

VIDEO/PHOTO: Fire tore through a vacant commercial building in Seattle's Eastlake neighborhood early Friday morning. The Seattle Fire Department was called to the scene shortly before 1 a.m. on July 5. Calls made to the Fire Alarm Center at 12:53 a.m. reported seeing smoke and flames erupting from the structure located on the 2900 block of Eastlake Ave.
