All-black crew staffs Connecticut fire headquarters for first time in 80 year history

VIDEO: History was made in New London when New London Fire Headquarters was staffed by an all-black crew. The fire headquarters is about 80 years old. After 80 years, it was manned by an all-black crew for the first time earlier this month. New London firefighters are proud of their work. “We’re a busy fire department, I’m proud of all the members I work with, I love this job and am proud to be a part of it,” said Al Mayo, New London Fire Department Lieutenant.

Mystery Solved: Firefighters in California find retired captain's boots hiding in ceiling with a note

VIDEO: Firefighters with the Sanger Fire Department were surprised to find a pair of boots during remodeling construction at the fire station. "Nobody knew that he would do that, and he clearly left them behind for us to find," said Sanger Fire Captain Greg Tarascou. Nobody knew, and retired Fire Captain David Gee kept his little secret for 28 years.

Community builds new garden for Seattle Fire Station 41

What was once an empty field is now a beautifully landscaped garden outside of Fire Station 41 in Seattle. It’s all thanks to a local garden club and landscape company. On Thursday, the fire station held a dedication ceremony to thank the Carleton Park Garden Club and Rainbow of Mangolia Landscaping group.

Hamilton County (TN) VFDs to Receive $300K in Funding for Equipment

Hamilton County, Tennessee recently allocated $300,000 of equipment funding for the county’s eight volunteer fire departments, newschannel9.com reported.

Here is how the funds would be allocated:

  • Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department: $60,000 for self-contained breathing apparatuses
  • Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department: $60,000 for self-contained breathing apparatus loan support
  • Waldens Ridge Emergency Service: $59,000 for battery-powered and elevated rescue equipment
  • Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department: $48,500 for pagers
  • Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department: $35,500 for air pack bottles
  • Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department: $16,300 for vehicle plugs, elevated rescue equipment
  • Flat Top Volunteer Fire Department: $12,100 for building improvements
  • Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department: $8,600 for AEDs and medical supplies
