Fort Morgan (AL) Volunteer FD Feels Pinch of Higher Fuel Costs

Fire departments along the Alabama Gulf Coast, like the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department, are feeling the pinch of high fuel prices, according to an article published by MYNBC15 News.

The television station reported the departments in Baldwin County rely heavily on donations to fund their responses and have limited resources to absorb the increase in fuel costs.

Michael Ludvigsen, president of the fire board for the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department, told the television station that because of generous donations, the department has a small amount of money in the bank that keeps the department going. He said the department has about a dozen vehicles that must be fueled and ready to go at a moments notice, according to the television station.

The department provides coverage for more than 12 miles of roadways and dozens of miles of beachfront responding to medical calls, vehicle crashes and other calls, according to the report.

Ludvigsen said the department is preparing to boost fundraising activities if necessary to combat the increasing fuel prices, according to the report.

New San Francisco Floating Fire Station Opens for Operations

The San Francisco (CA) Fire Department’s Fireboat Station 35 opens for operations Thursday, and the San Francisco Chronicle had a look at the construction of the new fire station.

The 73-foot-long-by-96-foot-wide float allows the two-story, 4,900-square-foot station to ride the tides, potentially making it more resilient in the face of disasters such as fires and earthquakes.

The Fire Station 35 historical building will stay standing on the pier where it was originally built, and the fire apparatus it houses will still operate out of its garage, the report noted.
