The Lynchburg (VA) Fire Department recently held a wet down ceremony for its new engine, reports wsls.com.

The 2021 apparatus, which cost about $660,000, will serve the Boonsboro area. Its predecessor will be taken out of service and sold at an auction.

After an Ellis County (KS) fire truck recently broke down, the Scott County (KS) Fire Department stepped in to lend a hand, reports hayspost.com.

Ellis County fire officials say that, while on a call, a pump on Engine 50 failed. The cost to fix the 26-year-old system was upwards of $25,000, not including labor and other parts.

Officials add that one of the current company chiefs in Hays used to be on the Scott County Fire Department and, after a discussion, they offered to loan Ellis County a truck. Ellis County said it will lease the truck until a new one arrives in May 2022.

As part of the arrangement, Ellis County replaced an auxiliary pump on the Scott County truck used to fight grass fires.

The Center Point (IA) Fire Department recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new station, reports kcrg.com.

The project, which began in 2015, will cost around $2.7 million, officials say. The new station will be erected right next to City Hall and will have increased parking and space for firefighters to work.

The department hopes the new building will be ready by January 2022.

Flames erupted at the Ephrata United Methodist Church on Sunday after someone left a candle burning overnight in a bathroom there. Smoke was billowing from the roof of the building when the first firefighters arrived on scene. Eventually 40 firefighters from six different agencies were dispatched to battle the blaze.

The groundbreaking ceremony was recently held for Ono Island (AL) Fire Station No. 4, reports gulfcoastnewstoday.com.

The 6,085-square-foot facility, designed by McCollough Architecture and to be constructed by M.W. Rogers Construction, will be built across the street from the current station. It’s scheduled for completion in April 2022.

The news digs are designed to withstand 175-mph wind and will include six bunk rooms, a private office, an emergency medical service room, two apparatus bays, and storage space.

The City of Orange Beach and Ono Island have a fire and EMS agreement due to the latter being outside the city limits, the report says. As part of the agreement, the city purchased a new engine and equipment with Ono Island repaying the cost over 10 years. The agreement also includes the Ono Authority constructing the new station.
