Brunswick, ME, Signs Contract on $9.1M Fire Station

Brunswick, ME, is scheduled to begin construction on a new $9.1 million fire station soon now that the contract to build the new facility has been signed, according to a report broadcasted on 13WGME.

The new fire station, which will replace a building that’s more than 100 years old, is expected to be completed in 15 months, according to the television report.

It is expected to have seven bays, bunk rooms, kitchenettes and offices, according to the report.

Joaquin Phoenix Hits LA County Fire Vehicle

The star of the movie, “Joker,” Joaquin Phoenix, hit a Los Angeles County Fire Department medical vehicle with his Tesla last week, according to the web site Wonderwall. There were no injuries.

According to the report, Phoenix misjudged a turn out of a parking garage and scraped against the unoccupied fire vehicle. Damage to the medical response vehicle was minor and damage to the Tesla was confined to the right front quarter panel.

Phoenix reportedly tracked down the on-call medical personnel and exchanged insurance information. He was not charged in connection with the mishap.

Man Arrested in Drive-By Shooting of Firefighter, Paramedic in California

A Stockton man was arrested in Richmond late Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder in the drive-by shooting incident that injured a firefighter and a paramedic in Antioch, and now authorities are searching for his girlfriend and 4-year-old son. The arrest of Darryon Williams, 26, followed a pursuit that traversed two counties and ended moments after Williams' vehicle collided with a parked vehicle in Richmond.

Massive fire destroys central Texas hotel during historically cold winter snap

VIDEO: A massive fire broke out in a hotel in Killeen, Texas, after the building's sprinkler systems failed to work due to frozen pipes. On Friday night, the Killeen Fire Department arrived at the Hilton Garden Inn hotel in Killeen to find "fire coming from the roof above the fourth floor of the four-story hotel," according to a statement from the fire department.
