Officials warn of early start to wildfire season after devastating 2020

VIDEO: A brush fire that broke out in Pierce County Friday signals what could be the start to yet another devastating wildfire season in the Pacific Northwest after a catastrophic 2020. The Washington State Department of Natural Resources issued a temporary burn ban spanning the 13 million acres it protects.

Lexington (NC) Fire Department Retires Its 63-Year-Old Ladder Truck

The Lexington (NC) Fire Department recently retired its aerial ladder firetruck following 63 years of service, according to a report on The-Dispatch.com.

To pay homage, 65-year-old former Lexington fire chief William Deal climbed the truck’s 85-foot ladder in a minute and 10 seconds. After a quick selfie he descended the ladder and sent the truck to its next call—North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

Upon its purchase in 1958, it was the only aerial ladder truck in Davidson County.

St. Joseph (MO) Fire Department Breaks Ground on New Station

The St. Joseph (MO) Fire Department recently broke ground at the site of its new station on Mitchell Avenue, East of I-29, according to a report on kq2.com.

Officials said that this new fire house aims to allow emergency responders to reach Deer Park in just 5 minutes and it will have state-of-the-art technology.

Officials added that the new station should be up and running April 2022.

North Odessa (TX) Breaks Ground on First New Fire Station Since 1984

Ground was recently broken on a new fire station in North Odessa, according to a report on cbs7.com.

Fire Station 9, the city’s first new fire station since 1984, is 14,500 square feet and was “desperately needed,” according to officials.

Vernon Township’s (IN) New Fire Station Is Getting Closer

Vernon Township (IN) Fire Protection District’s five-year plan is coming to fruition, reports tribtown.com, as earlier this year a five-acre site was purchased for $86,000 for a second fire station and training area.

The site—334 S. U.S. 31 between Uniontown and Seymour—is mostly vacant and the current house will be used for training purposes.

The details are still being worked out, and the fire district is seeking a contractor to do excavation work and install a driveway. However, officials said it won’t increase property taxes.
